Password Based Encryption

Course Outline

This course gives a comprehensive introduction to password based cryptography and shows how to incorporate this technology into existing infrastructures. The topics covered are the following:

  • Hash functions

  • Password hardening

  • Password hardened encryption services

  • Password based authentication

More advanced topics may be covered if time permits.

(Recommended) Requirements

Basic knowledge in cryptography, good programming skills, basic knowledge in IT security

Learning objective

On successfully passing the course, the students understand the difficulty of securing systems under inside attacks and they learn how to integrate password hardening into existing infrastructures.
